About Membership

An Comunn Gàidhealach Ameireaganach, Inc. (ACGA) is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that strives to promote and preserve the Scottish Gaelic language and culture through fostering and supporting Gaelic language study and fluency in spoken and written Gaelic, as well as interest in Gaelic literature, songs, music, art, and history in North America, Scotland and the rest of the world.

Incorporated in 1984, ACGA’s membership includes Gaelic enthusiasts in the US, Canada, Scotland and Australia. ACGA supports the learning efforts of its members in a variety of ways, and maintains links with similar organizations dedicated to the same goals. It provides small grants to groups that offer quality Gaelic language instruction to children and for Gaelic language learning opportunities in the last strongholds of Gaelic.

Membership in ACGA is open to anyone with an interest in studying, learning or preserving the Scottish Gaelic language, music and culture. The support of those who are not studying Gaelic but with desire to assist the efforts of others are welcome. Donations to ACGA, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, are tax deductible for U.S. taxpayers.

Members receive the quarterly newsletter An Naidheachd Againne (“Our News”), have access to our on-line forum and other resources, and receive tips and information via email.

Memberships start at $35 (US) per year ($15 for members age 25 or younger) and fund the activities of ACGA including the annual Immersion Weekend, Grandfather Mountain Gaelic Song and Language Week, and the Mòd. There is even a mail-in mòd, in which Gaelic learners can compete from home for prizes, and obtain expert feedback on their Gaelic.
