The 1999 ACGA Immersion Weekend |

An Comunn Gaidhealach-America (ACGA) again hosts the Scottish Gaelic Language Immersion Weekend on the scenic campus of historic St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. Join us Friday, May 28 through Sunday, May 30, 1999 for another challenging and enjoyable event! Our Immersion Weekend is an exceptional opportunity designed to draw together Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) students and native speakers in an atmosphere of study and fellowship under the tutelage of internationally noted teachers. Activities are structured to meet the needs of those who are just beginning their Gaelic study, along with those of intermediate and advanced students. The weekend also provides extended opportunities for more proficient students and native speakers to gather and enjoy Gaelic conversation in a beautiful setting. There will also be extracurricular activities, including a social mixer on Friday evening and a Saturday night ceilidh where students are invited to share their singing, dancing, poetic and instrumental talents in a participatory acoustic environment. The $175 tuition ($190 for non-ACGA members) covers classes, materials, lodging for two nights, meals and activities. You may stay Sunday evening as well by indicating so on your registration form and sending an additional fee. (Additional meal service is not available, though many restaurants are nearby.) We also offer a cassette tutor tape which features spoken recording of basic Gaelic phrases (please note that this is the same tape used for the 1998 Immersion). These phrases will be used as a common vocabulary at the Immersion Weekend. A transcript is availalbe here and printouts will be provided to all students in advance. Travel information and other details will be sent upon receipt of registration and fees. We recommend flying into Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and using the local shuttlebus service.
